Other regime of return: Decree 139/014

  • Through Decree 139/014, Uruguayan citizens (and foreigners) with more than one year of residence abroad, may enter the country, free of taxes, their furniture and other household goods, tools and machinery necessary for practicing their profession, art or trade.

  • Under this regime, you cannot take with you your car.

  • This regime, unlike Law 18250, which is of single time usage, it is possible to be used again in the future as often as necessary.

  • The costs of the preparation of documentation by the Consulate and the legalization of documentation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are not exempt.

  • To process this procedure, you will have to request an appointment at the following email address: cdwashington@mrree.gub.uy to be able to present the required information.

  • We suggest that you contact the Consulate more than 15 days in advance of your return and proceeding with your move.

Requirements:
The documents, that you will have to email the Consulate to be able to prepare the corresponding documentation which in turn will have to be presented before the Return Office (Oficina de Retorno) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores) once you arrive in Uruguay, are the following:

  • Bank, electricity o cable receipts from the last year (you will have to present the first receipt from a year ago along with the receipts from that same company following a frequency of every three months until completing the one year of use of the service) to show that you have lived abroad.

  • List of personal belongings (a general list of your personal belongings that you plan on taking with you back to Uruguay). The list must be presented in Word format with the title describing whom the belongings belong to (Example: “List of personal belongings belonging to Mrs. /Mr…………….”). We do not accept handwritten lists, nor packing list of the company performing the move, signed by the interested person.

  • The cost of the procedure in the Consulate is of $252, the payment is done with a money order or cashier check made out to the Consulate of Uruguay.

Otro Régimen de Retorno: Decreto 139/014

  • Por medio del Decreto 139/014, los ciudadanos uruguayos (y extranjeros) con más de un año de residencia en el exterior, pueden ingresar al país, exentos de tributos, sus muebles y otros bienes de uso doméstico, herramientas, aparatos e instrumentos necesarios para el ejercicio de su profesión, arte u oficio.

  • Bajo este régimen, no se autoriza el ingreso de vehículos.

  • Este régimen, a diferencia del de la Ley 18250 que es por única vez, permite volver a utilizarse en el futuro las veces que sea necesario.

  • No se exoneran los costos de la preparación de la documentación por parte del Consulado, ni de la legalización de la documentación por parte del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores.

  • Para gestionar este trámite, deberá solicitar cita a través del siguiente email: cdwashington@mrree.gub.uy a efectos de presentar la documentación requerida.

  • Sugerimos que se contacte con el Consulado con una antelación mayor a 15 días de su retorno y realización de su mudanza.

Requisitos:
Los documentos que deberá remitir por email a efectos de prepararle la documentación que deberá presentar en la Oficina de Retorno del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores una vez que arribe a Uruguay son los siguientes:

  • Recibos del banco, luz o cable de los últimos dos años (presenta el primer recibo de hace dos años junto con los recibos de ese mismo servicio siguiendo una frecuencia cada tres meses hasta completar los dos años de uso del servicio) para demostrar que estuvo viviendo fuera del país.

  • Lista de enseres personales (un listado general de los enseres de casa que planea llevar con usted de regreso a Uruguay). El listado debe presentarse en formato Word con título detallando a quien pertenece la lista de enseres (Ejemplo: “Lista de enseres pertenecientes a la Sra. /Sr…………….”). No se admiten listados manuscritos, ni listas de empaque (packing list) de la empresa de transporte. Esta lista de enseres debe presentarse firmada por el interesado.

  • El costo de este tramite en el Consulado es de U$S 196, su pago se realiza con un Money order o cashier check a nombre del Consulado del Uruguay.
