Issuing a passport for the first time

Cédula de Identidad – Uruguayan ID Card – (expired or about to expire), in the event of having one.
We will finger print you, as well as take your picture and signature here at the Consulate.
Cost: $72, we only accept Money orders or cashier checks made out to the Consulate of Uruguay.
If the procedure is for a minor child, both parents will also have to be present on the day of the appointment with a valid ID. If for whatever reason, one of the parents cannot be present on the appointed day they will have to obtain a Minor’s Permit. The minor will have to be present on the day of the appointment with a valid ID and a Uruguayan birth certificate not older than 30 consecutive days of issue.
If you wish that your passport should be mailed to your residence, you will have to bring, on the day of your appointment, an envelope from the United States Postal Service with a tracking number and stamps.
The passport will be received by this Consular Office in an approximate period of four to six weeks beginning on the day that the passport was processed.
ATTENTION! New additional requirements for people over 18 years old started from September 22nd, 2022.
- Background Check of the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), must be Apostilled by the United States Department of State.
- The Background Check will be valid for 6 months.
- The Background Check must be translated by a translator from Uruguay or by the Consular Office (cost US$ 54.00 per page, we only accept Money orders or cashier checks made out to the Consulate of Uruguay).
