Certificate of Re-entry to Uruguay

For Uruguayan residents abroad whose Uruguayan National Identity Card (Cédula de Identidad) has expired or been lost.

Are you planning to travel to Uruguay in the near future?

If you are a resident of Uruguay and are currently abroad with an expired or lost Uruguayan National Identity Card (Cédula de Identidad), the Consulate may issue a Certificate of Re-entry that will allow you to enter Uruguay without the need to obtain a visa.

Required Documentation:

  • Copy of your valid passport.
  • Copies of the passport pages showing your entry to and departure from Uruguay.
  • Copy of your Uruguayan National Identity Card (front and back), if available.
  • Proof of your address in the United States (for example, a driver’s license).

Procedure:

  1. Send the required documents by email to: cdmiami@mrree.gub.uy
  2. The Consulate will verify with the relevant Uruguayan authorities whether your residency in Uruguay remains valid.
  3. If your residency is confirmed, you will be scheduled for an in-person appointment at the Consulate to verify your identity.
  4. Once your identity has been verified, the Certificate of Re-entry will be issued and delivered to you during your appointment.

Validity:

The Certificate of Re-entry is valid for sixty (60) days from the date of issuance, in accordance with Article 14 of Decree No. 394/009.

This service is provided free of charge.

We recommend submitting your request only if you intend to travel to Uruguay in the near future.
