If a person was born outside the country and is the child, or grandchild of at least one natural Uruguayan citizen, the person is considered a Uruguayan national.

If a person is registered by one of their parents, the parent who is not listed on the birth certificate may appear to recognize the person.

The passing of a Uruguayan citizen abroad can be registered in the Civil Registry of Uruguay.
