Recognition

If a person is registered by one of their parents, the parent who is not listed on the birth certificate may appear to recognize the person.

Requirements:

Request an appointment by sending an email to cdmiami@mrree.gub.uy with the following scanned documentation:

-Uruguayan birth certificate of the recognized person.

-Identification document of the acknowledging father or mother .

-Current Identification of two witnesses (Uruguayans or foreigners). If you are a foreigner, (documents valid in the country of origin are accepted, such as a driver’s license).

On the day of the appointment, the recognizer and the two witnesses must appear with valid ID’s and the original birth certificate of the recognizer.

When the person recognized is over 18 years of age, he or she must be present to sign the document.

Registrations can be made only for those people born in the following States: (Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Puerto Rico, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Dominica and US Virgin Islands).

Costs:

The cost of the procedure is $18 and payment is made with a money order or cashier check payable to the Consulate of Uruguay.
