Birth
If a person was born outside the country and is the child, or grandchild, of at least one natural Uruguayan citizen, the person is considered a Uruguayan national.
Uruguayan nationality is inalienable and therefore, it is possible to have the nationality of another country, without losing Uruguayan nationality.
Requirements:
Request an appointment by sending an email to cdmiami@mrree.gub.uy with the following scanned documentation:
– Apostilled birth certificate of the child.
– Valid identification of Uruguayan parent.
-Current Identification of two witnesses (Uruguayans or foreigners). If you are a foreigner, documents valid in the country of origin are accepted, such as a driver’s license).
If the case of minors, one of the parents must be present on the day of the appointment, along with two witnesses, all with valid ID’S and the original birth certificate of the registered person apostilled.
Those over 18 year of age do not need to be accompanied by their parents at the time of registration.
Registrations can be made for those people born in the following States: (Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Puerto Rico, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Dominica and US Virgin Islands).
Costs:
The cost of this procedure is $18 (your payment is made with a money order or cashier check payable to the Consulate of Uruguay) and the cost of the translation of the American Birth Certificate is $54 (your payment is made with a money order or cashier check payable to the Consulate of Uruguay).
