New milestone for UIH: inauguration of the Innovation Campus
On Monday, June 17, the inauguration of the new Innovation Campus was held in the Los Ombúes Building of the LATU Innovation Park. LATU. This campus is a fundamental piece in the strategy of the Uruguay Innovation Hub program, designed to become an epicenter of synergy and collaboration that promotes innovation. Its objective is to provide a dynamic environment for interaction between actors of the national and regional innovation ecosystem, facilitating the exchange of ideas, knowledge, contacts, connections and resources.
The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, the Chancellor Omar Paganini; the Minister of Economy and Finance, Azucena Arbeleche; the Minister of Education and Culture, Pablo Da Silveira and the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Elisa Facio, among other national authorities. Also in attendance were representatives of the national ecosystem, including academia, public agencies, startups, companies, chambers, investors, research institutes and other actors committed to entrepreneurship and innovation in our country. The inauguration was also attended by strategic allies of the Uruguay Innovation Hub and representatives of organizations with which it is working in various forms of collaboration.
During the event, the relevance of these spaces to foster innovation and entrepreneurship was highlighted. Minister Elisa Facio, president of the steering committee of the Uruguay Innovation Hub, emphasized that “This center is more than a building; it is a vibrant ecosystem where entrepreneurs, researchers, companies and the government collaborate to promote the creation of innovative solutions that improve people’s lives and generate development opportunities”. The Minister of Education and Culture then emphasized in his speech that “This campus is not only for innovation: it is itself innovation.”

Sabrina Sauksteliskis, Executive Director of the Uruguay Innovation Hub, also addressed the audience, noting that “I invite you to dream big and act even bigger. Accelerate from Uruguay, finance the ideas of our people, attract investments and entrepreneurs who see Uruguay as the ideal place to test and scale their ideas”.
The event continued with an enriching exchange between Maayan Schreiber, CEO of OurCrowd LATAM Labsand Matías Peire, CEO and Co-Founder of GRIDX strategic partner of the ATGen-GRIDX consortium. Both shared their enthusiasm for the Uruguayan innovative ecosystem and discussed the positive impact that their organizations expect to generate in the country, reaffirming the commitment to continue positioning Uruguay as a regional leader in technology and innovation.
To close the event, the national authorities present cut the ribbon. Afterwards, there was a guided tour of the campus facilities, where they were able to appreciate the spaces that will host workshops, lectures, events of the technology and innovation ecosystem, and also discussed the ideas that are projected in this space.
About the Campus
The Innovation Campus, located in the Los Ombúes Building of LATU’s Innovation Park, will house the program Uruguay Innovation Hubprogram, the startup accelerator OurCrowdstartup accelerator, the company builder ATGen – GRIDX focused on biotechnology, a coworking space to foster the exchange between startups and open innovation labs. Two open innovation labs will also be present in this space: Antel ODL y Newlab. Likewise, other actors of the innovative ecosystem will also be present, offering a space for the exchange of experiences and collaboration in the development of joint solutions.
In addition, the campus will have a soft landing space for international startups wishing to develop their solutions in Uruguay, facilitating their integration and connection with other players in the ecosystem. Companies with an innovative profile will also be able to establish themselves in the campus.
This building will also serve as a versatile platform for events and activities that will bring together various components of the innovation ecosystem. In this sense, since the inauguration day, the Campus has a full agenda of activities for the coming months.
All this in the framework of the LATU Innovation Park, an environment with large green areas that hosts a wide variety of actors of the national entrepreneurial and innovative ecosystem, among which are the ANIIANII, Ceibal Ceibal, INIA, Microsoft AI Co-Innovation Lab, Newlab, the incubator Ingenio, , the Latitud Foundationthe Harvard Business Harvard Business SchoolBusiness School, the UMand many other institutions.
With the inauguration of the Campus, Uruguay reaffirms its commitment to creating an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation, consolidating its position as a benchmark in the region.

PROGRAMA “INGLÉS SIN LIMITES” BUSCA MADRINAS Y PADRINOS CON BUEN MANEJO DE INGLÉS
El programa Inglés Sin Limites de ANEP invita a compatriotas residentes en el exterior, que posean buen manejo del idioma inglés a postularse como “madrinas” y “padrinos” voluntarios para apoyar la labor de docentes en escuelas rurales de la República a través de la lectura de cuentos, el envío de audios y/o videos, el apoyo en el uso de la lengua y cualquier otra actividad o Proyecto que se acuerde a tales efectos. Se trata de un programa de democratización que promueve la universalización de la enseñanza del inglés surgido en el marco del proyecto “Uruguay Plurilingüe 2030”, el cual cuenta actualmente con 643 escuelas (623 escuelas rurales y 20 escuelas urbanas especiales) que no poseen un profesor de inglés presencial.
