Permanent Residence

We are pleased to inform you that, the Consulate of Uruguay in Miami will restart the permanent residence process under Law No. 19,254 (THE START DATE WILL BE INFORMED).

The procedure will be enabled exclusively for people residing in the jurisdiction of the Consular Office – not as tourists.

The Consulate will be competent to deal with the requests of foreign nationals of Mercosur Member States and Associates that accredit said nationality (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Venezuela, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana and Suriname).

It will also have jurisdiction to initiate the residence process for foreign citizens from the rest of the world who are spouses, partners/ longtime companions, parents or siblings of Uruguayan nationals, being necessary to prove said relation through documentation.

Requirements for foreigners over 18 years of age without Uruguayan relatives:

1. Identity document from the country of origin, valid and in good condition.

2. Criminal record certificate from the country or countries where you have resided for more than six months in the last 5 years, duly legalized or apostilled and translated into Spanish.

Criminal Record Certificates are valid for 6 months from the moment they are issued, unless they indicate a shorter validity.

3. Uruguayan vaccination scheme certificate, which may be presented later at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Montevideo – An Affidavit is signed at the Consulate.

4. Proof of address where the residency process will begin.

Requirements for foreigners under 18 years of age without Uruguayan relatives:

1. Identity document from the country of origin, valid and in good condition.

2. Identity document of the parents, valid and in good condition.

3. Testimony of birth certificate.

4. Residence authorization signed by the parents.

Requirements for foreigners of legal age with Uruguayan relatives:

1. Identity document from the country of origin, valid and in good condition.

2. Criminal record certificate from the country or countries where you have resided for more than six months in the last 5 years, duly legalized or apostilled and translated into Spanish.

3. Testimony of certificate that demonstrate the relation with the Uruguayan family member.

4. Uruguayan identity card or passport, valid and in good condition of the Uruguayan family member.

5. Uruguayan vaccination scheme certificate, which may be presented later at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Montevideo – An Affidavit is signed at the Consulate.

6. Proof of address where the residence process will begin.

Requirements for foreigners under 18 years of age with Uruguayan relatives:

1. National identity document from the country of origin, valid and in good condition.

2. Identity document of the parents, valid and in good condition.

3. Testimony of the birth certificate of the minor apostilled and translated into Spanish, if necessary.

4. Residence authorization signed by both parents.

5. Certificate of Uruguayan vaccination schedule, which may be presented later at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Montevideo – Affidavit is signed at the Consulate.

6. Uruguayan identity card or passport, valid and in good condition of the Uruguayan family member.

7. Testimony of certificate that demonstrate the relation with the Uruguayan family member.

8. In case of having a deceased parent, death certificate.

9. In case of having a tutor, submit a court ruling that accredits it as such.

10. Proof of address of the country where the process will begin.

All foreign documents that are presented must be apostilled, except criminal record certificates with electronic signature and verification code.
