Ignacio González
Consul General of Uruguay in San Francisco
Born May 23rd 1983, married, two children.
Studies: Bachelor degree in Law (UDELAR, Uruguay) and Certificate of Diplomatic Studies, University of Oxford.
After working for five years at a Law firm in Montevideo, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay in 2009.
Posted to Brussels, Belgium from 2012 to 2017, he lead Uruguay’s efforts in international cooperation and drug policies with the European Union.
During those year he led the Uruguayan delegation to the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna in an effort to pursue countries to adopt a more rational policy on drugs.
Returning to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Uruguay from 2017 to 2019, he worked and at the Directorate General for Political Affairs and later as assistant to the Chief of Staff of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In 2019 he was posted as Consul General in San Francisco, with the task to open the Consular Mission and lead the trade and investment efforts in the west coast of the United States from the midwest to Hawaii.
Since then, he has helped contact multiple Uruguayan tech companies with US tech companies and viceversa, in a quest to maximize efficiency given the comparative advantages Uruguay has to offer and has also collaborated with tech entrepreneurs guiding them in how to engage with the US market.
He speaks Spanish, English, French and has conversational skills in German and Italian.
