Final and one-time return: Law 18250

  • To be able to proceed with process of Returning to Uruguay, you will have to request and appointment via the following email address cdwashington@mrree.gub.uy, to the effects of presenting the required documentation.

  • We suggest that you contact the Consulate more than 30 days in advance of your return and proceeding with your move.

  • The procedure has no cost.

Requirements:
The documents, that you will have to email the Consulate to be able to prepare the corresponding documentation which in turn will have to be presented before the Return Office (Oficina de Retorno) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores) once you arrive in Uruguay, are the following:

  • Bank, electricity o cable receipts from the last two years (you will have to present the first receipt from two years ago along with the receipts from that same company following a frequency of every three months until completing the two years of use of the service) to show that you have lived abroad.

  • o List of personal belongings (a general list of your personal belongings that you plan on taking with you back to Uruguay). The list must be presented in Word format with the title describing whom the belongings belong to (Example: “List of personal belongings belonging to Mrs. /Mr…………….”). We do not accept handwritten lists, nor packing list of the company performing the move. This list of personal belongings must be presented signed by the interested person.

  • Letter from the employer or proof of employment.

  • If you plan on taking your vehicle, you will have to present:

    • The Certificate of Title for a Vehicle: the original document and a notarized copy and apostilled in the State in which the document was issued.
    • Motor number.
    • You will have to state your marital status and if you are married, indicate whether you have community property status (Régimen de bienes gananciales).
    • On the day of your appointment you will have to present the original documents previously detailed.
