Uruguayan Consular Card
The Uruguayan Consular Card, or TCU, is a document issued by Uruguayan consular authorities to Uruguayan citizens who are residing in the United States of America (it can be issued to Uruguayan citizens, who are minors, as long as we have the consent of their parents or legal guardians).
The TCU has a three-year validity and has no cost.
The TCU is an important means of identification especially in all the cases in which it is necessary to present two identification documents, constituting also as a proof of residence for Uruguayan citizens. Among many other advantages, the TCU allows, as an example:
Open accounts or cashing checks in the bank branch offices which is recognized within all of the United States, like Wells Fargo, Chase Bank and BB&T in all of the United States territory.
Register children and adolescents in public schools
Hiring public and private services in those offices that recognize it.
Count on attractive discounts and promotional rates in many businesses in the United States and Uruguay that cover different areas.
The requirements to request the TCU are the following:
To be a Uruguayan citizen, adult or minor, regardless of the place of birth, and place of residence in the United States of America.

It is only done online. The interested person must complete and send the application form called “Solicitud de la Tarjeta Consular Uruguaya”, that can be found here.
Attach an updated passport photo of you, from the front, without glasses, light colored background, as indicated in the following example:
In the extreme case that the interested person cannot attach their photo in the above mentioned terms, they’ll have to send via email in jpg format a photo, from the front, in color, without glasses, in a 2×2 inches size, with a white background.
We request that the interested person provide a prepaid USPS envelope with postage for each request through which we can mail the TCU to the address provided on the card. It is very important that on said envelope be provided the address of the addressee.
Once the TCU procedure is fulfilled and has met all the necessary requirements, the Consulate will receive the card in approximately two months beginning the day that the procedure was begun.
