Gabriela Ortigosa
Consul General of Uruguay in New York
Minister Counselor Gabriela Ortigosa began her career in the Uruguayan Foreign Service in 2000 through successful completion of the Foreign Service Officer’s Exam. She holds a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and has vast experience in economic and regional integration negotiations, as well as political affairs, human rights and multilateral affairs, among other areas.
From 2000 to 2002, she served the General Directorate for Integration Affairs and MERCOSUR at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, mainly working in the area of economic and trade negotiations.
Between 2002 and 2007, she first served as Consul, and then managed the Economic and Trade Department within Uruguay’s Embassy to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
In 2007-08, she served the General Directorate for Integration Affairs and MERCOSUR, and then in 2009-10, she was the director of the International Political Organizations Department within the Directorate of Political Affairs.
From 2010 to 2015, she was appointed to the Permanent Mission of Uruguay to the United Nations in New York, primarily working in the First and Third Commissions of the General Assembly.
Between 2016 and 2019 she served as the Deputy Director of the Multilateral Affairs Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay.
Since February 1, 2019, Minister Counselor Gabriela Ortigosa serves as Consul General of Uruguay in New York.
