Passport Renewal: Adult
Previous Uruguayan passport (expired or about to expire) and/or cédula de identidad – Uruguayan ID card – (expire or about to expire).
Passports can be renewed up to 1 year prior to its expiration date.
If you lost your passport, you will have to present the police report. Alternatively, and in the case that you cannot make said police report, you will have to make a police report in the Consulate.
We will finger print you, as well as take your picture and signature here at the Consulate.
Cost: $36, we only accept Money orders or cashier checks made out to the Consulate of Uruguay.
Your passport will arrive at the Consulate approximately within a period of four to six weeks beginning the day the process was begun.
If you wish that your passport should be mailed to your residence, you will have to bring, on the day of your appointment, an envelope from the United States Postal Service with a tracking number and stamps.
New additional requirements for people over 18 years old started from September 22nd, 2022.
- Background Check of the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) must be Apostilled by the United States Department of State

- The Background Check will be valid for 6 months.
- The Background Check must be translated at the Consular Office (cost US$ 54.00 per page) or by a public translator from Uruguay.
IMPORTANT: The consulate cannot process a passport if the person has a criminal record.
